Mike Ward, Project Director
Mike Ward has a background in maritime civil engineering and has over 20 years’ experience in the project management of marine construction works, including dredging, pontoon installations, environmental and legislative issues.
As Project Director for Marina Projects Mike heads up the consultancy activities and has detailed knowledge of all consultancy commissions, with particular interest and experience in the development of proposals that recognise the market opportunity, constraints of the location and aspirations of the Client.
Mike is also the British Marine Federation’s dredging representative, providing industry specific advice and guidance to Member organisations on dredging and consent related issues. The role extends to a position on a working group set up to develop a new licensing regime for maintenance dredging to satisfy the latest EU Regulations (including the Maintenance Dredging Protocol).
Mike is experienced in dry stack boat storage systems and over the past five years has undertaken an amount of international market research into all aspects of dry stack systems including leading the development team responsible for the introduction of modern dry stack systems to the UK. Mike has also presented papers in the United States to industry experts seeking guidance on the introduction of dry stack systems to new markets and on the promotion of the customer service benefits and business advantages associated with Dry Stack operations.
Currently working on a range of consultancy projects in the UK and worldwide covering marina design, waterfront development and viability studies Mike’s input covers a range of discipline’s (technical, environmental, operational, market review, feasibility and viability). Mike is currently taking the lead on the following significant projects:
- Technical and field study advice into the Eastside Project development in Gibraltar where Marina Projects have been appointed by Multiplex as the marina consultant for a major mixed-use waterfront development
- Feasibility study into the Cowes Outer Harbour Marina study including input into hydrodynamic modelling studies and detailed review of the constraints to development
- Acting as expert witness into the Public Inquiry into the proposed Second Harbour Crossing in Poole
- Technical and environmental input into the Thurrock Marina market review and feasibility study
- Project management advice to River Hamble Harbour Authority
